CDC Week 43 Epidemiological Analysis: (from JCHD Epidemiologist, Sara Wilton)

This week the county remains in the RED/highest transmission level with a weekly case count of 348 confirmed and probable cases and a positivity rate of 9.1%. We experienced a 1.75% increase in cases since last week’s report. Our percent positivity increased as well, from 7.68% to 9.08%. We reported 72 youth cases in week 43, accounting for 20.6% of all weekly cases.

JCHD utilizes CDC metrics for determining the level of community transmission. The community status is calculated using BOTH the 7-day total of new cases per 100,000 residents AND the percent positive tests. When the colors of the individual indicators are different, CDC requires that the higher color level determines the transmission level. This week, the total 7-day cases per 100,000 remains in red, so our transmission level continues to stay at the RED status. COVID-19 County Check Tool | CDC

Our total percentage of fully vaccinated individuals is 43.91%. Of the 348 new cases that were reported for week 43, 77.01% were unvaccinated. Two of our age groups have surpassed the 70% vaccinated mark; 70–79-year olds and 80+ year olds. Our 60–69-year-old age group is close at 69.72% fully vaccinated.
