tobacco-free environment
for Jefferson County in
public places by:
- Educating the public about the benefits of being smoke-free
- Raising awareness and advocating to area officials for the need for a smoke-free Jefferson County
If you would like to help reduce the

In 2008, all public school districts in
Jefferson County have a tobacco free policy. We will work with youth advocates
and school administrators in the school or community to educate students,
parents, and community members on the importance of a 100% enforced tobacco-free
environment for all schools.
A “tobacco-free environment” exists if the
school has a policy prohibiting smoking in any form by students, faculty, staff,
and visitors at all times. The policy prohibits tobacco use in school buildings,
on school grounds, in school buses or other vehicles used to transport students,
including all off-campus school-sponsored events (School Health Policies and
Programs Study by CDC, 2000).
