The health department's environmental section
receives animal bite reports from the public and animal control agencies within
the county.
When necessary animals involved in bite cases are placed under quarantine or specimens are submitted through the
environmental section to Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services
Virology lab for rabies testing.
We educate animal bite victims regarding the
risk of rabies and coordinate with medical professionals regarding post exposure
treatment.
