Jefferson County Health Department Environmental Services Department conducts Lead Risk Assessments in response to elevated blood lead levels in children up to six years of age when they have lead levels above 15 micrograms per deciliter.
Symptoms of Lead and Problems with Lead Exposure
High blood lead levels in children can lead to behavioral and attention problems, hearing problems, problems at school, kidney damage, reduced I.Q., and slowed body growth including poor bone developement.
Symptoms of lead exposure can include abdominal pain and cramping, aggressive behavior, anemia, constipation, difficulty sleeping, headaches, irritability, loss if developmental skills (in young children), low appetite and energy, and reduced sensations.
EPA Study Results For The South West Mining District
