What is healthy eating?
In short, healthy eating is watching what you eat, how much you eat, and how frequently you eat certain foods. It is important to eat a variety of foods from every food group to ensure your body gets the nutrients it needs to help you live a long and healthy life.

Why is it important to eat healthy?
The choices you make when it comes to eating have an effect on your long-term health. This fact may be best illustrated by comparing your body to a car. A car needs fuel to run. If the wrong type of gasoline is put in the car, it may run at first, but the car will soon stop working properly and need repairs. Similarly, your body can function as long as you provide it the energy it needs from food and drink. However, if you do not eat a well balanced diet, your body will not function the way it should. You may feel more tired or have less energy, become overweight or obese, or develop a nutrition related illness.
On the other hand, a diet high in fruits and vegetables, whole grains, low fat dairy, and lean protein can give you more energy, help you maintain a healthy weight, and even prevent the onset of certain health conditions such as diabetes, high blood pressure, and even some cancers!
